As a part of the activities of the Nanotechnology Cluster of Nuevo Leon, we are pleased to invite you to our 9th Annual Nano International Forum in which you will be able to create networks with an exclusive group of business people, industry specialist and specialized speakers related to the advanced materials sector and the nanotechnology industry and science of Mexico, Europe and the US.

 

In this edition, we will explore through our leading international scientists in nanoscience and nanotechnology speakers the advances and disruptive innovations that are driving new industrial applications and commercialization in metallic and polymeric composites, energy, advance coatings, nanostructures, applications in paper, fabrics, plastic, and more. We will also explore the uses of advanced materials in the 4th industrial revolution, an important manufacturing control trend in Europe and the US.

The Nanotechnology Ecosystem in
Nuevo Leon


Considering mainly the characteristics of Nuevo Leon’s industry among other factors, in 2009, under the triple helix concept, the Government, the Industry and the Academia funded The Nanotechnology Cluster of Nuevo Leon.

The Cluster is part of a government long term program created to foster a Knowledge based Economy and Society under the conformation of an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Ecosystem in the State that includes a Research and Technology Innovation Park (PIIT) and a Nanotechnology Incubator located at the PIIT.

One of our main activities, as a cluster, is to strength the State´s economy through the benefits of the nanotechnology in their different economic sectors such as the automotive industry, materials (ceramic, polymers, glass, cement), metallurgical and metal working industry or nano-bio technologies.

    PRESENTATION TITLE: New Tendencies in Nanotechnology.

    Holds a PhD. in Physics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and postdoctoral studies at the metallurgy and material science department at Oxford University and the NASA AMES Research Center.
    Currently, leads a group of researchers at the UT at San Antonio, focused on the synthesis, characterization and application of nanostructures of metals and oxides using chemical and physical techniques. Use aberration corrected scanning transmission microscopy, Electron Diffraction, Raman microscopy, Atomic Force, Transmission and Environmental scanning transmission microscopy. Have been long interested in nanoparticles of noble metals. Have also a very extensive program in bimetallic nanoparticles sponsored by NSF. And now are studying the following systems: Au/Pd, Au/Pt, Pt/Pd, Au/Ag, Pd/Ir, Au/Co, Pd/Mo, Pt/Pd/Ag

    Azael Martínez de la Cruz is professor of chemistry at Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (México). He is Ph.D. by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain (1997) where developed a work about electrochemical lithium insertion systems. This work won the national award for the best thesis in the area of materials granted by the IMM-UNAM (México). He is author of 75 scientific papers in international refereed journals, and has been supervisor of 6 Ph.D. and 11 M.Sc. students. Within the scientific mexican system he is recognized as level 2 in the National Research System (SNI). Currently his researches are focused in the synthesis of semiconductor oxides by different routes, its characterization and evaluation as photocatalysts in the degradation of organic dyes in water and for the elimination of NOx gases from air. Since 2014 he has developed technological activities with Pinturas Thérmicas del Norte (Monterrey).

    Nacido en Querétaro el 26 de abril de 1963; egresado de Ingeniería Mecánica y con especialidad de Seguridad y Dinámica de Automóviles por el Japan Automobile Research Institute de Tsukuba Japón. Maestro en Ciencias con especialidad de Diseño Mecánico y Doctorado en Diseño Mecánico. Laboró por mas de diez años para la industria privada en las ramas automotriz y de maquinaria pesada en temas de mantenimiento, manufactura, diseño de producto y pruebas de sistemas, equipos y componentes. Desde el año 1990 trabaja para el Centro de Ingeniería y Desarrollo Industrial (CIDESI), Actualmente ocupa el cargo de Director Adjunto de Investigación, Desarrollo e Innovación. Sus líneas de investigación han sido el mantenimiento, automatización, manufactura, criogénea y optomecánica en las cuales ha realizado gran número de proyectos.

    Clay and Silver nanoparticles of less than 100 nm in size are currently attracting increasing attention for the wide range of new applications in various fields of industry. Polymer nanocomposites with these kind of particles can exhibit enhanced properties that differ substantially from those of bulk materials. They have improved mechanical, flame retardant, barrier, antimicrobial, optical, and electromagnetic properties of different polymer matrix. Most of the unique properties of nanoparticles require not only the particles to be in the nano-size scale, but also the particles be dispersed without agglomeration. These nanoparticles has successfully been used in different industrial applications such as automotive, packaging, electrical-electronic, biomedical, etc. This review presents the main characteristics of each type of nanoparticle and their application in different industrial fields.

    Magnet/winding wire is fabricated by using a polymeric coating that works as a dielectric for a conductor wire which is used to make inductor coils. Wire enamels, tapes & extruded plastics are typical coating used in the industry. Typical magnet/winding wire has good dielectric, mechanical, thermal and chemical properties, but poor pulse endurance. Inverter technology development in high value applications like: electric vehicles, hermetic & high performance motors, demands magnet wire with high pulse endurance. Magnet wire pulse endurance can be improved dramatically by using a nanocomposite (polymeric matrix-nano inorganic particles) which depends directly on nanocomposite quality dispersion. Magnekon takes advantage over its competitors by using nanotechnology to produce specialized magnet wire for high value applications.

    Dr. Licea achieved her doctoral degree awarded by the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Chalmers University in Gothenburg, Sweden. At the end of her PhD she returned to Mexico through the repatriation program joining the staff of CIMAV as a full-time researcher. Her research focuses on the area of Polymer based Nanocomposites, Functional Nanomaterials and Nanostructures for Energy Applications. Dr. Licea has been author and co-author of more than 35, she has been leading and participated in more than 38 projects within her area of expertise on issues of innovation in nanotechnology and nanocomposite materials. She belongs to the national system of researchers (SNI) of the CONACYT.
